Default How to "stop down" the P510 ?

When I first got my P510, I took some moon pics. While taking them, I was able to hold the shutter release halfway and the LCD would show me the approximate exposure results. It was great! I could see pretty close how the shot would look.

Now, though, after playing with it in various ways over several weeks, I can't get it to stop down like that anymore! I've tried full manual, shutter pri, full auto, rest to factory settings, etc. Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing?

Thanks in advance...

Have you adjusted the "metering" parameter...?
Try spot metering in aperture priority...
