Default Nikon 5700 Thoughts

A little history... I had a F717 for a little over a year and was pretty satisfied with it. Had a 2x TC for it and got some real nice Notre Dame football/basketall shots with it. Got greedy and wanted a little/a lot more. Went ahead and purchased the D-Reb w/ a Sigma 70-200/2.8 along with a 1.4x and 2.0x TC. I know there's an adjustment period going to the D-Reb, but I don't know if I want to keep it. I can sell the Sigma's and pay for a new 5700 and a 2x TC and even keep the D-Reb.

In addition to taking A LOT of sports pictures, I'm also taking pics of my family. How does the 5700 handle sports/action shotss. Also, how does the lens perform with the 2x TC? Any/all input would be appreciated.

I love my 5700 and shoot basketball games with it. The 5700 will not perform as well as the DSLR for actions shots. You can view some of my family pics at www.pbase.com/gibsonpd3620

I also love my Coolpix 5700. Just paid $585 for it (after rebate) at a authorized Nikon dealer. I have no experienced problem with low light giving focus problems yet. It takes pictures inside my house where there is light, took pictures in NYC at night, and taking photos on the spot with the quick response on, also helped as well.

I really wanted the D70 for the larger screen, and taking pictures of action shots, but the D70 with lense is twice the price of the 5700 at this time. So I could not justify (my wife would be annoyed if I spent the money for the D70) getting the D70.

The red eye reduction on the 5700 works great. I have very little to do to my photos in Nikon View. They pretty much come out the way I want them to. I did spend the couple of hours reading the manual. Found out for example the flash will not work in the continuous fast mode. But once I worked the camera, most of what I want to do, I can find pretty quick. At this point for action shots I use my Canon Elan. Otherwise I am pretty much dedicated to this camera.

May I recommend getting the Lexar 40 X speed 256 memory card. They have a $15 rebate on it right now. And of course, I purchased a 2nd battery. The Nikon bag for the camera (made of leather) is very nice. I have my extra battery in it, and the pen lens cleaner (brush on one side and little felt tip on the other)

Did I mention that the camera takes great pictures. I love this camera! :P

Depends if you want 5 mega pic and a great zom. If you don't care about raw, and a big zoom get the 5400 that has more dummy modes like landscape, portrait, etc. But you can see use the manual or shutter or Ap mode.

Hey gibsonpd3620, the kidsonwater photo is amazing. Great colors of the trees, lake etc.
