You can't really compare lithium batteries to NiMh. They are totally different animals.
In my E-Planes I have little lithium rechargables that power my plane for 30 minutes compared to my NiMh rechargables that have greater mAh capacity but only power the same plane for 10 minutes.
The Li batteries have much longer duration, the NiMh's have more power but shorter duration, NiCad's have even more power but the least duration.
There are other factors besides capacity.

Sunny! EN-EL1 batteries for $24.99 at Citywide Digital.

Ok, so they're only $10 cheaper...

I'll go through my receipts at home and find out where I got mine from, and compare the price.

You must have a very innovative way of measuring power and you should patent it. The last time I check, it's still V x I hence:
NiMh: 4.8V x 1700mAh = 8160mVAh for $11.99 at Walmart vs
LiIon:7.2V x 650mAh = 4680mVAh for $24.99 at Citywide Digital

... and may be theses folks doesn't know what they are doing

I've got to admit it they made a boo-boo when they drop the AA from my 990 to the 995 even though it's supposed to support a microdrive!

BTW with respect to weight the 5700 is indeed lighter, 16.9 vs 17 ounces for my D7!

The external dimensions are quite similar too @ 4.3x3x4 vs 4.6x3.6x4.5, also varying wether the battery grip or the tulip lens shade is attached. It's like splitting hair except for the color of course...(that polarizes everyone)

Shame on you...Jeff Mirkin. Now you turned on the D7i vs. CP5700 FIRE again!

Dont you mind the salesspeeches! Make your own opinion.

NHL:

The thing about the weight competition between D7i and CP5700 - is this the weight with or without the neckstrip ? He he! Please!

He He, just a few constructive criticisms... May be we get some where like a Black D7 with a sync cord!

The Minolta folks had a few issues here as well a while back...
