The advice I got was to buy the 4 filter set and use the clear UV filter as a lens protector and that has worked well for my 4500.

The polarization filter is also handy for water and sky shots, and the package is around $50 for 4 filters. You also get two light filters ND-4 and ND-8 I believe, but I have not used those at all.

Default Lens Cleaning

As for cleaning the lens. The only thing I use is Lens Pen, they are inexpensive and work great!!

For taking off the fingerprints and grime off of the LCD monitor, use a couple pieces of scotch tape, apply, then remove.

Good luck!

Though it may be of no significance because of the cost of replacement, the glass in the front of the CP series Nikons is not the lens itself, but a protective glass facing. The lens itself is internal and telescopes back and forth - in other words the glass you clean is not actually part of the lens itself....

Default Lens Uv filter

For some reason they are not available in OZ so I purchased a different brand at half the cost.
Ok it might not be the lens but I bet it is cheaper than replacing the class cover
