Default MB-E5700 and rechargeables

I have tried my Rayovac I-C3 NiMH 220mAh with my 5700 and the MB-E5700 and it does not power on When I put in a set of non-rechargeables they work fine. Is this because the Nikon battery is 8v and the NiMH are 1.2v a piece and the combined voltage is only 7.2v, where as the standard alkalines are 1.5v with a combined total of 9v ?

Okay I will be the first to ask the obvious questions - are you sure that all 6 batteries are fully charged? Do you have a battery tester? I looked at the charger on-line and from one description it states that it can charge 2 AA's or 2 AAA's at once (two separate slots on the back? of the charger), or 4 AA's or 4 AAA's at once (4 slots on the front of the charger). I don't know if they're selling two separate models or if it is just one model - the ads aren't very specific. If it's one model it doesn't say that filling up all 6 slots will charge 6 batteries at the same time. Can you clarify this? What do the instructions say?

Further to the posting above are you using 6 Rayovac 15 minute chargeable batteries?

The charger and batteries are the ones in this link.
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_...yovac_ic3.html

I even bought a MAHA MH-CF401FS, that Steve reccomends, with eight of the Powerex 2200mAh batteries thinking it might be a compatability problem. They didn't work either.

I have one of those cheap iPowerUS testers that came with the MAHA charger and batteries and all of them are reading good.

I took a closer look at the battery tray with the batteries in it and it looked like the positive posts were a little shallow and didn't seem to be touching the contacts  So I took one of my micro screwdivers bent the contacts ever so slightly and LO and BEHOLD the batteries work!!!! It seems that the positive post is about .020 inches shorter on the rechargeables than the standard alkaline batteries

So now I am going to take the battery tray into work to see if our soldering GURU can do something to make it beter, or else I will have to stick a piece of .025 fiberboard (the same stuff a PCB is composed of) behind the contacts and superglue it in place.

Now I need to know if anyone wants the MAHA charger and bateries for $55 shipped. I like the Rayovac system better because it only takes 15 minutes to charge

Hey Sting I appreciate the responses 8)
