Default 5700 f stops

This is a repost. I can not seem to get f stops smaller than f8 even in manual mode. What am I doing wrong?

Steves, you're doing nothing wrong, you're correct, you can set F-stop on this camera < than F/8, that is the limitation of the lens on this camera...sorry for the confusion on my previus post, I assumed the logical procedure that should work with all SLR, and Nikon should put the caution note on their manual...

Steves, I wish it had a broader range, too.

In Steve's Digicam review, he has the spec listed as:

"Aperture settings from F2.8 to F10.3 in 10 steps "

I don't know if the 10.3 figure was a preview spec given out by Nikon.

Damn!!

That is a pretty major short coming in a "pro" sumer camera. There are a lot of times when I want a smaller aperture. I suppose I culd accomplish some of this with a crossed polarizer but what a #$^# thing for Nikon to do!
