Default 5700 f stops? f8 or 2.8?

I'm thinking of buying the 5700 and am concerned about something I read here. Does this camera go below f8? How can it not go to 2.8 as advertised everywhere? I've not heard this mentioned in any of the many reviews I've read. It seems that if this were the case folks would be bitching left, right and center! What's the deal???

Thanks

The lens .. like all zooms, as different f values at different zooms. At wide sooms it does do f2.8.

The issue with f8 is that this is the smallest aperture it can achieve. In practice this may not be an issue since the short true folcal length means a high depth of field anyway BUT it can effct the ability to sue slow shutter speeds.
