Sound like your camera need a repair!
Could be a firmware fault.

Oh, sorry! A firmware is a peace of software, which is inside your digicam and used to let you control the camera - and control the camera itself.
Sometimes the camera somehow suddenly can generate a malfunction - could be a "hot pixel" f.e, which is a spot on your pic, which stays the same place every time you shoot a pic. Put the malfunction can be other fault, such a bad focus a.s.o.
Nikon and a lot of others sometimes puts firmware update OR/AND the orig. firmware on the net, so we - the users - can download the firmware for our specific cameramodel and restore the software to the original or maybe to make the camera work even better.
Firmware can be download and updated via your memory card or a cableconnection.
However your problem could be a hardware problem as well.
You should contact your dealer for a repair. Nikon also makes software repairs.
Good luck!

Sorry to say, but currently there's no available firmware for the cp5700. My advice is to take it back to your dealer and let them take it to Nikon. It has to be the specific firmware for the cp5700 others won't do.

You have to call Nikon (I recon you can do that ex. in the USA site) and they will tell you if the can mail the 1.0 version to you. There should be a chance....
You can find a description on "how to..." on their site.
However I wouldn't advice you to do it yourself, without being 100% sure of what your doing it could go very wrong.
If they won't mail the firmware and instruction - you should return the camera to the dealer. Did you talk to the dealer? Since its so new it could be replaced. Here it would! There's also the warranty issue...it seems to me you have some problems in returning the camera! But I would do it.
Firmware can usually be updated using a memorycard (CF here) or the cable you mentioned!.
Take it back for your own sake!
