Hi
I wanted to know which is better for macro. Coolpix 4500 or Kodax Dx6490.

I guess coolpix should be better because u can shoot from .75 inch and dx6490 the min dist is 12 cm.
But the zoom of dx6490 is 10X and 4500 is 4X.
Any suggestions.

here are the specs
Coolpix 4500:
Lens: 4x Zoom-Nikkor; f = 7.8-32mm (equivalent to 38-155mm) F2.6-5.1 with macro; 10 elements in 8 groups; all glass, Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC) applied; glass-molded aspherical lens elements included
Focus: 11.8 in. to infinity
0.75 in. to infinity in Macro mode

Dx6490
Lens: Schneider Kreuznach Variogon
10X optical zoom, 6.3-63.2mm (35mm equivalent: 38-380mm) 3.0X Advanced Digital Zoom
focus distance: wide std. - 0.6m (2 ft.) to infinity; tele std. -- 2m (6.6 ft.) to infinity; wide/tele infinity: 20m (65.6 ft.) to infinity

I am interested in taking close up of teeth.

Any suggestions which one will work out better
Thanks
Regards,
Ajay...

Just my opinion but the 4500 seems to be one of the best Macro cameras ever made. Kodak does make good all around cameras but their macro settings have not impressed me from the examples I have seen. I am really not sure why Nikon stopped making the swivel lense cameras because they seemed to have a winning combination.

If your interested in a little newer technology, some of the new cameras coming out seem to have great macro capabilities.

The Coolpix 4800. Less that a half inch away and coming in at around $400. Pretty good. Oh yeah it's is 8.3 optical zoom and has it'sown built in lens cap.

Hi Susan
I was looking at 4100, 4200, 5200 and all had macro of 1.6 inches. This looks like a good one for macro. I will check it out. Thanks.
