Default Focus and lag time problems with Nikon 5700

HELP!!!

I need the autofocus to perform better, almost all of my candids have been out of focus and the lag time on this camera is killing me.

How can I get the Candid shots of my 3 year old smiling at the camera before she looks away. I've got plenty of blurry shots of the side and back of her head.

Picture quality is great but the pictures are useless

Join the tribe!

My solution has been to use manual focus.

Often it can be a good thing to use the spot or centerweigthted lightmessurements. This can sometimes prevent the out of focus pics.

But beware of the surroundings when using spot.

You can maually select the focussing point from the camera, select the center focusing point, this one acts quicker than any other ones, use that to focus and lock in focus then reframe and shoot. Be-careful when you're using the spot meter if you're not familiar with it, it does not solve the focusing lag time problem...cheers
