I received my 8800 last week, while I am pleased with the quality of the pictures, it seems rather slow to save pics, 3 seconds, nothing can be done during this time. I would have expectec more for a $1000. camera. The D70 save time is practically nill. I liked the 10x without have to buy expensive zoom lenses like for the SLR's, but I guess this is just a trade off.

Hi Ruben,

Welcome to the forum

Thanks for your info re the 8800.

Just curious...what image quality were you saving?

RAW, fine (1:2) jpg or ?

Thanks!

Just remember that these cameras are optimized for JPEG mode, Raw or TIFF is going to take considerably longer to process. The 8800 is not quite in the same league as the digital SLRs (D70, 20D, etc). It also makes a difference as to which memorycard you are using. To see any real read/write performance you'll need a 45x or faster CF card. Look at the Sandisk Ultra II or III, Lexar 48x or new 80x Pro Series, Transcend 45x or other "high speed" CF cards for best results.

I tried all file sizes except RAW or TIFF, even VGA did not make much of a difference. I was using an UltraII 512MB, so it was a fast card. I returned it yesterday, I'll save up for a digital SLR.
