I have just bought an 8800 and I am very impressed. I do have one concern regarding the shutter delay. When the release speed is set to quick, I get reasonable results in daylight, but poor response using the flash. I want to be able to take indoor sport photos, so I want to get this sorted out. Any advice?

The lower the light, the longer it will take for the autofocus to work if you're talking about autofocus lag (time it takes the camera to focus after half pressing the shutter button).

Using zoom will also impact focus times (the lens in the 8800 is not as bright when using zoom, so it will take longer to focus if light is lower, as indoor light will be).

If you're talking about cycle times (time you must wait before you can take another photo), then flash recycle times will impact this. You may be able to get faster recycle times with an external flash.

For reducing autofocus lag, try half pressing the shutter button in advance, then when the moment is just right, press it the rest of the way down. After a camera is prefocused with a half press, shutter lag is minimal.

Hi JimC

I am referring to the time from shutter press to image capture. I can eliminate auto-focus lag by going to manual focus, but still get a delay between depressing the button the last half and the actual recorded picture. This is more evident when using flash than in daylight.

The recycle time is actually quite good and does not bother me at all.

Thanks for your input anyway!
