I am considering a Nikon Coolpix 4800 for my first digital camera. It has an 8.3X optical zoom but I have been told that it may be prone to camera shake at the tele end. Any advice?

My wife purchased the 4800 .
I have a D 100 and was amazed at her results after I " tweaked "
her settings. Wish the lens had VR but in good light at max optical telephoto results were sharp. Some of her results were better than mine but thats another story.

Test results that I've seen on Steve's sample images pages look good but I would suggest keeping the shutter speed high for those telephoto shots.

On the Nikon 8700 which I tried using it's 8x zoom, camera shake was certainly visible on long telephoto shots.

Overall, I think you've made a good choice.
