I am considering purchasing the Nikon Coolpix 8800 with the TC-E17ED wide-angle conversion lens (using the UR-E17 step-down ring). Has anyone tried indoor people group pictures with this combination?

Also, will the CP8800 make use of the AF assist beam on the Nikon SB-600 external flash?

Silly me, I meant WM-E80 wide-angle conversion lens!

Sorry but the answer to both those questions is no.

The 8800 can make use of the ttl metering functions with the SB600 and 800, and even operate the motorized zoom head. But the AF assist lamp is a no no.
