Hi all ! A rare cold snap on the West Coast ! I was out for a dog walk this morning and took my Coolpix 8800, even though my wife asked me why as it was so dull and gloomy. Good thing I took it...there were bald eagles by the bagfull in trees by the Fraser River ! I snapped a few shots in very low light and will include a couple of surrounding shots so you can see how dark it was. The camera DOES focus in low light...it would do better with sun, but at least you can grab a full zoom shot that's decent, even when the light is bad. All on full "auto" ( aren't I lazy ) ...it was -3C with a strong windchill. I didn't notice any slowness in the camera. The write times also seemed unchanged with the camera (and hands) cold.

Lovely, surreal, landscapes. The second shot is fantastic, my favourite of the three.

Some awesome pictures there Scrubbler! Reminds me alot of my home country Norway. I was in Thailand during christmas, and most lucky regarding the Tsunami. From an island not affected by the tradegy, I took these low-light shots with my 8800. No focus problem here. By the the way, I have taken a bunch of low light pict with good results. I have taken pictures of different assets in complete dark with razor sharp results. The only times I have experienced problems in low light are when using lot of zoom and when taking portraits. It seems the 8800 somtetimes have some focus "problem" when focusing on faces but try focus on the eyes or make the person hold his watch in front of his/her face when focusing, then this so-called problem is no longer a problem! I love the 8800, provides me with at least 9 out of 10 good picts.
