Last Saturday I took pictures of Kites on Ice:
http://www.madisonfestivals.com/kites/index.php

Here is a picture of some of the large kites. It was a warm slushy day on Lake Mendota by Madison, WI. Lots of spectators.

I used a Coolpix 8800.

Nice shot. By keeping the camera level with the horizon you gave it a good sense of depth.

Beautiful picture ! The colour and contrast stand right out. If this is the small shot...I bet the full res, full screen original is spectacular.

Thanks for sharing it....well done !!

My criteria for this shot were to include the horizon, at least one standard-sized human to provide scale, and to have as many interesting kites as possible. I like this image because the kite in the upper left is turned to slightly face the camera while the others are facing sideways into the wind.

I had other shots with buildings in the background to provide scale, but then all the kites were side on the the camera. Everything was going from right to left. It seemed less interesting.

The sky was heavily overcast, but there is some texture to it. The full 8 megapixel image is nice. I took an 8 by 10 to a photo club meeting last night. Others that had taken pictures hadn't printed anything yet.

Glad you enjoyed it!

hi Gordon,

How nice to see so many fancy kites again. In 2000 I went to a big Bonsai convention in Wales, held at Margam Park, and they also had a kite meeting there. It was amazing to see what kites exsist.

Your combination of snow and kites is brilliant, thanks for sharing them. Can you show some more?

By the way I have bought a CP8800 yesterday, but the weather is so bad here that I haven't been able to take any photos outside yet.

Greetings from

Angie
