Just when I had my mind set on purchasing the 8800, I read that the sutter lag is too slow for sports/action shots? Is this true? Im so new to the dig camera world that Im frustrated. I was excited about the amount of optical zoom, the VR, the cont shooting,.... now Im lost again.

Thankyou for your help. Christina

Hi Christina

The Coolpix 8800 is not the ideal choice for action/sports photography. There are workarounds to speed up the shutter lag and write time but if you're looking for 'heat of the moment' stuff... DSLR is the way to go.

All prosumer point and shoots suffer from the same problem although some are faster than others. Bearing this in mind the 8800 is one of the best available.

Re 'essential' accessories: a spare battery and a clear filter to protect the front element... and perhaps an SB600/800 to improve flash coverage.

Also update the Firmware to Version 1.4.

Happy shooting.
