Has any one seen or used it yet ? It is due to be released in Aust very soon.
I am also interested in the New Macro cool-light.

We have used a pre-production 4500 here, you have seen the first look review right? If not, it's here:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2002_...nikon4500.html

The Coolpix 4500 is very nice, a slimmed down and more pocketable version of the 995 with more resolution. We hope to have a full production camera in the next 2 weeks and will be finishing both the 4500 and 5700 reviews at that time.

Default CP 4500 available

CP 4500 is available today from many on line places: Mac Mall (or PC Mall), pcconnection, cdw, ssdonline, etc. Any sights in retail stores yet?

In Canada it's been in smaller stores for a week or two.

I've played around with it but wasn't impressed by it. It does seem noticeably lighter than my 950 and I found the control stick to be different but good in going through the menus and such.

The exterior control weren't too intuitive - I couldn't get the redeye reduction setting to turn off. Now I didn't read the manual so take these issues with a grain of salt.

I really wanted to get the 4500 but after seeing it up close and personal at a few stores I'm now leaning to a G2. I expect that it'll drop in price now that the 4MP Nikon is out and is less.

Try it before you buy it is always good advice.

Default 4500

Steve,

Great format for the forum, by the way.

Re. your review, three questions.

1) I have a 995. Is the 4Meg chip a significant improvement over the 3.3Meg in the 995? I have notice that many cameras are lens limited so that more pixels will not get a better picture.

2) How does the shutterlag compare between the two?

3) Can you post the picture of the factory?

Thanks. Keep up the good work.

One more thing. I just asked the salesperson in my local camera store about the 4500. He said he was not impressed because it looked flimsy compared to the 950. What do you think?

Default He's got to be crazy!!!

The 4500 flimsy?!! He's kidding right? I bought this camera and love it! One of the reasons is because it has a much tougher body than the 990/995. Yes the 990 is bulkier, but that does not come close to meaning "flimsy".

I would suggest that you hold both of them and then proceed to tell the salesperson to give their head a shake. (or you can shake it for him/her)

You will not be dissapointed by this camera!

Ben,

Thanks for your post. I will relay your sentiments to him. He told me that he reduced the number he was going to order for his shop because of the appearance issue! Oh well.

Have you noticed any improvement in quality over the 990/995? How bad is the shutter lag?

Default Shutter lag.

Just a quick addition... the smaller size is great I can take it everywhere! Everyone wants to know all about it when I pull it out.

Anyway... The shutter lag is pretty good actually. I would say better than the 995 but it's hard to say exactly how much. I used an HP 618 at work before buying this one. And this one is light years ahead in speed and quality. Hope this helps!
