Default Red eye reducing on Coolpix 3500.

Anyone have a good way to reduce red-eye on the Coolpix 3500? Just got one and have played with all of the scene selections and nothing seems to guarantee an acceptable amount of red-eye. Are there specific conditions that cause red-eye? I'm tired of touching up afterwards! Any suggestions are appreciated.

Forgot to mention that the red-eye reducer flash setting is a joke! Any ideas?

I just got the 2500 and have the same problem, even my cat has alian very bright green eyes!, like two bright light bulbs.
I find I can't use the flash at close range, I use the "museum" setting and try to hold the camera very still, it works most of the time.

Yup, no way around it. I have a 3500 too, and the flash is just way too close to the lens. I bought it mainly for outdoor shots, so I'm not as annoyed, but I do have to post process most indoor pics, especially when it comes to my dog.....
