Hi everyone. With a coolpix 8800, what do you guys recommend the settings for to catch some fireworks? Can't really experiment with this one. It only comes up once a year. Thank you for your helpful input. I will post some results next week.

this camera takes great fireworks shots, even on the fireworks scene mode. Itook these 2 shots at Disney World a few weeks ago - HANDHELD in the fireworks scene mode, which had a 4 second shutter speed. You will notice some movement in the lower right of the first pic, but still, the fireworks look great ( i think ).

Nice shots. My biggest problem was when to shoot. Too soon, you lost the best part of the fireworks. Waiting that 4 seconds takes forever before you can get another one off. What were your MP set at and what were your other settings?

Raw or high? Thanks. Only way to learn is to try and try again.

It was on high setting (8MP).My main problem with this camera is that it locks up after 1 or 2 shots (except in continuous mode) and has to write to the memory card. I took over 20 shots at this fireworks show and think only 3 are decent to print. Some others are OK, but most of the others are either too much smoke, too much movement, or just not a good picture of the fireworks. I know it's after the 4th now, and I hope you got some great shots. I am a very amateur photographer. I mess with aperture and shutter a little bit, but leave the other settings alone for now. Obviously, I'm not going to be able to help you at all in your endeavers. I can post the EXIF settings of each picture (i'm sure they're similar). Anyway, I wanted to post a couple more of my Disney World trip. I had a blast there with this camera.
