Default Uppercase file extensions in XP with Nikon View 5

I am using Windows XP Pro and noticed that all of the .jpg image files uploaded by my Coolpix 990 (using Nikon View 5) have filenames and extensions that are in uppercase (DSCN1023.JPG). In Windows 98SE, the filename/extension would appear as "Dscn0123.jpg". Since I use a lot of images on the web, the uppercase naming and extensions are driving me nuts. Does anyone else have this happening in Windows XP?

I haven't found any solution in windows itself other than making a script! Too advanced for me.
However I found this little program (several on the net):

http://www.rlvision.com/flashren/about9.asp

With this you can rename all your shot at once. - maybe this will help you ?

Yes, that program was helpful, thanks. Were you also saying that you have had been experiencing this same issue? (i.e. capitalized extensions and filenames of image from your Nikon camera).
