Default D1X or D100 suitable for microscopy?

I am thinking about attaching a D100 or D1X to a microscope for scientific documentation.

1. Can you flip the LED screen out to view the electronic finder from the side? Otherwise, because the camera is attached at an awkward angle, I would have to bend around the microscope or stand up every time I want to take a look at the viewfinder.

2. Can the mirror be swung up before exposure to minimize vibrations? If so, can this be done remotely with Nikon Capture?

Thanks for any help (or suggestions for other camera models)!
