Default Just what I heard

I had seen $1300.00 somewhere, but I don't remember exactly where it was or how reliable the source was.

Hi Marnor. I saw the 5700 on a Canadian web site for about 1800 CD which exchanges to around $ 1250 american. I was told early July delevery. The downside to buying North of the border is if you have problems the camera has to go back North. Then there is shipping and customs. Sometimes the dealer will pickup part or even all of the extra expense. I'm waiting for one too and while I wait am having a chat with a guy on this forum who thinks the Dimage 7 walks on water and beats Nikon hands down.

Very interesting. The price is some high considering the D100 is around $1900...

Default I don't consider 5700 price high

I think that it is a great price point at $1200-1300. This compares favorably to the Olympus EN-20.

The D100 is for a completely different market and will be at $2000 at best plus extra for software and does not include a lens.

The CP500 should drop to the $800 range.

I agree with you. If the 5700 lives up to the quality of it's older brothers it will be great. I have an E 10 and love it although it's bulky size is a bit much. You say that the price of the 5700 compares with the E 20. Have the Oly prices come down. Last time I checked the E 20 was still priced at over $ 1800. and it was not everywhere you could find that price

Default "Compares favorably"

Yes, the Oly is still up there in the $1800 range. I'd expect a new round of Oly cameras and an EN-20 price drop. Just speculation, but clearly the EN-20 can't compete if left at the $1800 price range. For about $2300 you can get a D-SLR with a zoom and be better off.

True. But for the same reason as kept me from a Hasselblad will make me think twice
before springing for D-SLR. I'm the kind of guy that would just have to have most every lens available and the first thing you know I'd be afraid to leave home at night because I had 5 to 10 thousand dollars tied up in one camera. Much as I like. Reread the evual's on the 5700 and it keeps looking better and better.

Default nikon 5700 price

i have seen the nikon 5700 at dealtime for 1495.00, which i think is a premium because it is not available yet.

i think the e-20 and e-10 leave much to be desired with only a 4x lens considering its weight and size.

i just finished using a dimage 7 for a year and found the 7x 28-200mm lens to be really versatile. really all one needs for most shots.

does anyone know about the lens adapter for the nikon 5700(price and how it attaches)? i am concerned that 35mm is not wide enough.

According to the Japanese Website
http://www.nikon-image.com/jpn/produ...rtor.htm#ur-e8
you need Adapter Ring UR-E8 to attach
the WC-E80 that takes 35 mm (equiv) down to 28 mm.
List on the UR-E8 is JPY 2,000 (ca. USD 16)
The WC-E80 and TC-E15ED (taking the 5700 to 420 mm) are both JPY 25,000 (list)

It is not clear how the adapter ring attaches.
