Klaus- i'm sorry i thought when you were refering to the ball head i was under the impression you had a Arca Swiss Ball. it has a different type of clamp assy then what i now believe is your manfrotto ball head.

these guys and girls make some beautiful machined aluminum parts and adapters for use with the arca swiss type clamp. the baseplates are exact fits with the camera base that it was designed to fit and will not allow the camera to twist on the screw. the make various QR plates for big lenses and QR plates to adapt to just about any ballhead. they system works real well.

i have manfrotto and gitzo legs. about to get another set of manfrotto carbon legs for traveling.

MizzleJizzle

easy there. everyone everywhere in the world is not expected to know everything about every available product in the world. RRS not known through out the world and arca swiss is a pricey chunk of aluminum too so not all people look at such items. we are here to talk about equipment and technique and learn from each other hopefully. so please if thats all you have to say save the keystrokes.

My limited english apperently makes me look like a beginner! Hmm...

See this link:
http://www.photococan.com/itm01081.htm

This is the ballhead I own. I thought you reffered to the plate on the top.

Are you satisfied with that mounting - it seems to be a bit clumsy on the camera. The best for me would be a plate to mount into the ballhead and LEAVE on the camera all the time! Do you get my meaning ?

Klaus DK & sjms

The way I read it, MizzleJizzle was referring to TroyB. But then again, I know that both of you are definitely *not* beginners.

I believe what you are talking about is what sjms is talking about. Try this RRS's tutorial:
