Default 3100 Will AC adapter charge the battery?

Simple quesiton,

I got my mom a 3100 and it didn't come with a AC adapter or charger for the re-chargable battery that comes with it.

Can I just buy the AC adapter to plug into the camera and
charge the battery that way? Or MUST I buy the charging kit?
If so what alternatives do you focks suggest?

Thanks much,
Chris

What battery did your 3100 come with? most of them ship with one crv3 battery. You cant recharge this! You can buy a set of rechargeable NIMH batteries. If you have the nikon rechargeable ones they are marked EN-Mh1 and these will work with the nikon charger. Most times if you dont get the charger then you just get a crv3 use and toss battery. And the EH-61 adapter wont charge a battery.Tealblue

The 3100 is plastic. This a strong camera and will hold up very well.
