Default URGENT! Coolpix 4500 menus

I just picked up my Coolpix 4500 yesterday, and today my monitor menu seems stuck on the Image Size/Quality menu. I've read the manual (honestly!), but I can't figure out how to get back to the 'main menu.' HELP (please)!

You can take the battery out over night, that will reset the camera when you power back up. Tealblue

I had this problem. If you are in AUTO photo mode, pressing the menu button will only yield what you see.

Here's what to do for the different menus:

Playback menu: Press the " > " button next to W twice so a recent picture takes up the entire screen, then press Menu

Shooting or Setup Menu- In P, S, A, M mode (accessed by pressing the MODE button on top and rotating the dial), press Menu and you will see them.

Thanks, to both of you. Jeremy, your suggestion worked! tealblue, yours would work, too, but that solution would have been too *obvious* for me to see. I have to do things the hard way.

ACK! I should have left well enough alone! After following your (excellent) instructions, Jeremy, I decided to play around a little...BIG mistake! Now, the picture shows on the monitor with FUNC--->PLAY and a bracketed musical eighth note! I wish there was a 'To get to this screen on the monitor, do this' section in the manual. (Maybe there is, but I haven't found it yet.) Color me frustrated.

Owlz, with smudged camera monitor, too.

If you're reviewing pics and hit function, I believe that starts a recording so you can record a message with the picture, which would explain the note.

Thanks, Jeremy. Would you know how I would get rid of that note?

Owlz, who is starting to wish there was a 'Nikon Coolpix 4500 For Dummies' book available

Agree that menu system is confusing and not well explained in the manual. I'm just beginning to figure it all out after getting my 4500 about 5 months ago. I recommend a book- A Short Course in Nikon Coolpix Photography by Dennis Curtin.
