Experiences with C4000Z ??

Who can say anything about the Olympus c4000z ? Is it already on the market. In Holland it is not. Is it a replacemant for the C 4040Z ?

Fritzs,
Do nnot think it is replacement for 4040 as have heard nothing about it for US market. Olympus tends to give bigger numbers for better new models, 3030 was replaced by 3040. Is the D40Z over there?
Cheers,
Gary

The C4000 is a stripped down C4040--not a replacement.

I just got mine in the USA. :D

I consider it more of an upgraded 3K series than a stripped 4K series.

The lens is more like the 3K series. F2.8 .vs. F1.8. It seems more like a 4 MPixel 3K series. It does have a 2 cm macro mode, but the flash is turned off when you use it. (Won't help me for underwater photography since I need the flash trigger).

Its significantly cheaper than the 4040 and it looks like it will fit my needs.

I guess there aren't too many of these in the wild yet.

I didn't mean that as a put-down. When the C3030 was current, they intro'd the C3000, which was "stripped down", meaning mainly that it lacked the internal memory and something else. Anyway, that made the C3000 look like a bargain, so I bought one!

Not taken as such. Its a matter of perspective. As others get the camera, people smarter than me can determine its proper placement in Oly's product line. I would be interested in their opinion.

It is a 4K series just by the CCD. In terms of feature set, its like the 3 series. For me, Its my first Digital Camera and so, I'm not sure what features are important and which are not. I bought it purely because of the availability of an inexpensive underwater housing and that its the newest thing that fits the housing. In terms of 3 or 4 Mpixel, I doubt that I will really notice. I'll run it in lower resolution mode underwater so I can maximize my frame count. Its hard to change film underwater. I really wish it had compact flash so I could increase my frame count.

[

going to 4 megapixel by itself does not make it an upgrade of thhe 3o4o series at the cost of:
F1.8 lens
32 meg internail buffer.
remote control
Audio
Seems more like a 4 mega version of the 3020

Sounds like a reasonable assessment.
Excepting the F1.8 lens, not important features to me. The buffer would be nice, but with underwater shots, the speed wouldn't help.
