I want to get my dad a camera for Christmas. He's not very technically inclined, so we want a camera that is EASY to use (point and shoot), minimal feature set, is very rugged and durable, and obviously takes great pictures, for under $400.


Most of today's cameras are overloaded with features. I want to stress that want something SIMPLE and intuitive, for a non-techy person. Navigating through 3-4 levels of menus to change resolutions or other features wont cut it.

I would appreciate your inputs.

I have a D-510, which I thiink the current model is the D-550, and it's about as Point-and-shoot as they come. Takes great pictures and has been to the four corners of the US with me over the last year, never so much as hiccupping. Costco's got the D-550 for <$300 and you can pick up a 128MB Smartmedia card there too! Anyways, good luck!!
