The longest part is focusing, so if you half-press the release in advance to focus and lock exposure, taking the picture is very fast. The E-300 is capable of 2.5 frames per second (up to four frames).
I just wanted to expand something I said...when I said, "up to four frames", I was thinking in RAW mode which is what I normally shoot in with my E-300...if you shoot in a JPEG mode, you can keep shooting on and on as long as you have a fast enough CF card that can keep up with the saving.

Well, I have plonked my money down on the E500. In the end I really couldn't justify the extra for the live view. If I need that for macro work I'll revert to the 8080. Plus its just another thing to go wrong. This way I also get two lenses to play with.
