The 14-45 isn't a macro lens, so it naturally doesn't have a macro focusing distance. The Olympus website for this lens has all the data, and indicates that the minimum focusing distance is 0.38m (38cm). The 14-54mm lens , on the other hand, has a much closer minimum focusing distance of only 8.67" (0.22m), which gives it I guess what might be called semi-macro ability.

Don't use that add on lens or you will break your zuiko AF mechanism. If you want to do macro photography but cannot afford zuiko ED 50/2.0 macro, you can purchase Extension tube EX-25 instead. You can read the spec, magnification, and focusing distance at Oly e-system.

just to let you know another possibitilty for doing macro work with e 300.

theres some very nice macro on the om system which perform really good on E cameras. here is an article about this

http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/oly-e/omz.html

personnally i bought in ebay for 80$ the 50mm 3.5 OM zuiko macro and it really delivers great image quality and sharpness on my e300. and you have to count itas a 100mm macro .

Does anyone have some good photos taken with the 50mm macro? How about with the macro plus the extension tube?

Take a look over on http://www.myfourthirds.com. Some of the people have posted quite a few photos with the 50mm f2. Here are a few:

http://www.myfourthirds.com/document.php?id=8090

To find more, input "50mm" in the search box at the top right of the MyFourThirds screen; then click on the various "image" names.

Wow, a lot of nice shots there. I cant wait to peruse the search results a bit more. I did find one that bad the 50mm and the ex-125 and WOW. It is just crazy how close you can get with that setup. Several of the kit lenses with the ex-125 look good too. Im going to go ahead and grab the 125 and a good flash drive tonight before the camera gets here so i wont be slowed down without it.
