Default 70-300mm field test by Bob Hamm

I was trying to find some info. on various telephoto lenses and came upon this field test of the 70-300mm ZD lens written by Bruce Hamm. For those of you who might be contemplating getting one, it's a worthwhile read.

Those of you who already own one might like to read it as well 'cause it should make you feel good.

My apolgies to Mr. Hamm, as his first name is Bruce.

........thanks Zig,

I enjoyed reading that and it did again pique my interest in the 70-300. Last week I used my 70-300 on the E-3 and am thinking of using it for the B-17 photo forage coming up in a few weeks.

Not a bad review at all. I understand that it's not as sharp as the 50-200mm, but given the price I think it's a great lens. I've been using the 70-300mm for some time now, and wouldn't mind getting the 50-200 when I can manage it. I really wonder if I'll miss the focal length though, as I tend to shoot at 300mm with it. Does anyone know the optimal focal length for sharpness (on the 70-300mm)? I was shooting some moon shots yesterday with some advice from a previous thread on the forum, and would like to try to get them even better.
