Birds with 50-200mm f2.8

The Sun was finally out today so lighting was significantly better. Decided to see if I could take some images of birds with the 50-200mm extended to 200mm focal length. The depth of field becomes rather thin since the lens is about 4ft away from the subject.

I cropped these a bit to see how much or how little would actually be in focus.

...........you are nearing (perhaps already there) text book images with these, particularly #2. I am no longer surprised with the 50-200 zuiko 'wide open' results, the dinger is just good. Did you set the ISO or did the E-30?

Hi Bob,

Yes, the 50-200mm ED is really a very sharp lens.

Personally, I find that I get the best results if I set the camera to manual mode and then can control all settings including the ISO. Shooting as I typically do in the morning -early light- and late afternoon - fading light-
I'm constantly trying to balance a fast shutter speed and open arpeture to mantain a low enough ISO in order to reduce noise. I'm not a noise-aphobic. It's just that noise really impacts the detail of the feathers. I use Neatimage to clean up as much noise as is possible without losing detail.

Since I seem to be concentrating on Titmouse to this point, I thought I'd include, what is my personal favorite Titmouse shot.

This little fellow came with a spunk and attitude that, I think, comes through in the capture. I saw him around last Winter. He was easy to spot 'cause he was boisterous. So far, he hasn't been to the feeder.
