Hello,
I'm noticing this "digitized" effect when I attempt to adjust curves, levels or brightness/contrast in Photoshop with images from my Evolt 500. I'm not digital image guru so I'm not sure what to call these effect. There's probably a word for it. Can anyone help explain what it is and if it's from the camera or Photoshop? I've highlited in red on the attached image what I'm speaking of. Thanks, DRG |

Offhand, they look either like jpeg compression artifacts or near-posterization due to something happening either in color adjustment or when converting to B/W. This obviously isn't the out-of-camera frame; what did you do to it after taking?

You're right. It's a combination of both JPEG compression and posturizing. That's the word I was looking for. I knew there was a word to describe that. I adjusted the levels the posturizing was visible in the original and throughout any playing with levels or brightness/contrast. I now have more memory storage so I'll be able to take my photos in full resolution from now on so hopefully that will help and I'll play with the camera contrast settings to get the desired strong contrast look I want without having to resort to strong level and brightness/contrast manipulation. Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated! Cheeers, DRG |
