OK, I said Sunday....and I am going back Sunday. Today was just flat too crowded, so I'll save the shots around the finish line and the grandstands for tomorrow. I only stayed today for the first 4 races. A couple of hours and around 20-25 total seconds' worth of action!

This typesubject is just too hard to predict and way too hard to try and frame exactly the way you wantas you shoot, especially since 200mm is too short for much of the area I was trying to cover, so all of these are cropped to some extent.

E520 and 50-200 f2.8-3.5 SWD. I really could have used Zig's 5 frames per second E30...

..........well, these are so right IMO and 3fps or whatever you just always bring home amazing files.

I've tried that at Lone Star several times and so far I've kept only so few, none of which compare favorably with these. It did not rain but it wasn't glaring bright either, same for tomorrow so do have fun and show us more.

Hi Greg,

Although I agree with you on one point; that you probably could have used the add'l frames per second burst speed of the E30, I gotta tell you that your photos continue to reinforce the simple fact that it ain't the camera- it's the guy holding it that makes the difference.

Those are just superb - just right on the nose. I was taken back a wee bit as I didn;t think the Oly's were really up to dealing with fast moving sports action but from the looks of it in the right hands they can well be.

Here's a few from day #2. It was more overcast today, so it was ISO 400 with one exception towards the end of the day when it darked enough that I had to up it to ISO 800 to keep shutter speeds at a level I wanted.

This bird is flying into some serious oncoming traffic..







Just ask the jockey in the back of this pack...that's the last place you want to be!



Here's a series of images from the race where I upped the ISO setting to 800. It also happened to be the largest field at 14 horses, and a short mist of rainbegan falling as the race started.

Agree! Just to say that shot #6 of horse #6 is one of the best; because of the way the muscles of the horse, and the intensity of the jockey stand out and seem to interact. That gives it a dynamic that is more than just a sensation of speed. Way to go Greg!
