That area is wonderful for photography. Some years ago I and a group of friends rented a sailboat out of Anacortes and spent some time in the Straits of Juan de Fuca. We had Orcas swimming alongside the sailboat (they're very large...) and bald eagles flying overhead. The farthest we got out of Seattle was Friday Harbor (you're not able to cover much ground in a 55' sailboat especially if you're not in a hurry).

The Canadian cities there (Vancouver and Victoria) are supposed to be lovely, but you already know that. Go there with every lens you own - I wish I could. There's a part of me that wishes we had rented a power cruiser and gone to those Canadian cities. But in retrospect I'd rather do it now with my Oly DSLR gear - back then I only had mid-level film gear*.

Edit: *What's amazing to me is that the inflation-adjusted cost of the Canon film SLR camera and the Vivitar & Canon lenses I had then (a long time ago), aren't really much different in cost than my inflation-adjusted income and cost of my good Oly lenses now. But I must say that my income has risen over those years...
