ESGR - Boss Lift Day

I met a C-130 pilot through a woman that does prison ministry with us a little over a year ago. It's her husband. Anyways, he called me Wednesday and asked if I'd be interested in a C-130 ride with him. I said, "Sure". Well, get this - this morning I arrive at the airfield and this "ride" turns out to be a day-long outing with some of the States leading businessmen. It's a promo for ESGR called, "Boss Lift"!

Here's how my day went:

Arrived for the briefing my a major general - I got to call him Bob Jumped on the C-130 for the ride down to Fort Knox where we were then shuttled by Blackhawk to a US Marine training base where we got to ride in an M1A1 tank! After that, we were bussed over to the one of the base's dining facilities where we had steak, shrimp, rice pilaf (but we had our choice of TONS of stuff - so did the troops, by the way). Afterwards, we were shuttled to the Patton Armor Museum for a briefing by the Lt Gen base commander and a tour of the museum. After that, our C-130 (piloted by my buddy), was ready to take us back to Louisville. Before I left, Charlie (my buddy) & I were chewing the fat when his boss (a full bird) comes up and says, "Congratulations on your promotion!". He made Lt Col during the flight back! How cool is THAT?! I shot over 650 photos during the day. You can see them all here:

It was a spectacular day and both the Oly and HS-10 (used mainly in the Museum) performed brilliantly.

The day had it's desired effect. Even though I served over 20 years, it gave me more respect than ever for the job our servicemen/women do with pride, self-sacrifice, and honor. The folks we saw in action were National Guard and Reserve. Sometimes known as "weekend warriors", most of the general public don't realize that they compose over half of our Armed Forces. They are expected to complete the same amount of training, fly the same amount of hours, etc. as their active duty counterparts, do it in 1/5th the time, and to be ready to deploy to a HOT combat situation within 48 hours. This is the face of some of those that serve proudly. Not a good photo but, you get the idea

The M1A1 is a heck of a tank, dam thing stay warm all night, and I always had warm water to shave with, just start up the turbine, put my canteen cup on the back deck. Puff 10min later warm water to shave with. I see you were at the marine motorpool area. And got some shots of the mout training area at Ft. Knox on you UH-60A ride.

The Patton museum is always a nice place to visit. Allot of cools things to take photos. of.

That's where we started the joy ride, ST. It was a short 10-15 minute jaunt. Nothing major but fun, nonetheless.
