Finally!

Up before the dawn this morning. Sharon, Terry (our cellar dwellar) and I set of on another Snowy Owl Expedition. I was cold dark and drizzly as we drove down to the river estuary and (muddy) flats. Walked out along the river dyke looking for the the white feathered fellows.
After a while as we got out to the bay we spotted a couple, the sneaky devils had parked their butts across the other side. I did manage to get a couple of shots of a couple of featureless blobs though.
On the way out, after the wind got up and we realised they weren't going to fly over to meet us we retired and warmed up with breakfast at Micky Dees.
Then on the way home we crosses the bridge and I decided to turn up the other side of the river, "One never knows" said the eternal optimist.
After wading through the mud and over driftwood coated in frog snot, I managed to get more than muddy pants and wet feet......YES!
A grand day out.

Excellent photos of a beautiful bird, Ken.

I read about you guys pushing your ISO limits and when I go more than 400 it's gets so noisy my hearing aid picks it up...:)

E500 all at 300/600 mm. And my tripod would hae been impossible out there so they were hand held in lousy light.
That's my excuse...I'm sticking with it..:D

Thanks Ted, you were quick!

Thanks youze guys. Fun morning out and it was fun seeing these great birds. They haven't made it this far south since the 70's. Big birds with a 5 foot wing span.

While we were out walking flocks/skeins of Snow Geese started piling in until the field across the river had clouds of them hovering and arguing about where to land. We couldn't get near them (but we will) but they looked fantastic.
