Greg

Those are just some amazing photos with incredable detail.

I am considering getting the 250D but the ring flash isn't in the budget.
Is the working distance enough to use the FL50 off camera?

First, thanks.

Second, I'm not sure you wouldn't be able to leave the flash on camera. The 35 macro won't work with the ringflash at 1 to 1 so the working distance is greater with the 50/250D combo.

I do know that the popup flash lights the EC-14/50 macro as long as the hood is off or reversed. I'm sure the 250D would change that, but the fl50 is quite alot higher.

Hi Greg

Some cracking pics... I'd love to post a few but me and the wee critters don;t normally get any where that close! I noticed that your using the Canon 250D close up filter .. how do you find using it ? Looking that the pics, its not having a negative effect but still it'll be good to hear your thoughts on how well it works with the 50F2 and EC.

Cheers

Its taking awhile, but I'm learning to not underestimate the quality of the 50 f2. Its simply an incredible lens. I'm sure that the EC-14 has some degradation. I'm sure the 250D does also. Add to that pushing the aperture well into the difraction limit, and you still end up with incredible resolution. Most of the pics posted are at f20, a cople at f16. The lens just has that much resolution to burn.

I don't know the results on other lenses, but the 50 mac is a special case.

Greg-

You have had a very busy day! That is an excellent macro series.

You definitely take macro shooting to another level over what I do! Excellent images and excellent temperment/patience was probably required in order to frame some of those subjects the way you did.
