Default Trip to the local Aviary!

I had a reason to be downtown Salt Lake City and had a couple hours to kill and decided a short visit to the Tracy Aviary was a good place to kill some time.

I know many birders think it is cheating...but hey, they are there and I have a camera!

All were taken with the E-30 50-200 either alone or with the EC14 or Ec20

This eagle was missing nearly one whole wing and is destined to live out his life there...

A portrait...

There were also two large goldens with bad wings...

I felt sorry for the Eagles, losing the ability to hunt, but I suspect they are well cared for and would be dead otherwise...so they live here!

This peacock was up on a roof and sadly would not open his tail as it was over 5 feet long...but I managed a decent head shot against the sky!

There was a large contingent of white pelicans who were in an area where they are free to leave, but of course with food and friends they stay!

This hawk had nearly finished its rehab and will be leaving soon. It is through a screen so not quite as sharp as it could be, the screen in the foreground is out of focus and a light blur....which causes some overall loss of sharpness...it is a shame that I had to shoot through the screen.

Enjoy and feel free to comment or critique it is always welcomed and encouraged.

These are really very nice pictures Jim.
Good that there a place like that for these birds.
One photo out of focus is a mistake, ten photo out of focus are an experimentation, one hundred photo out of focus are a style.

Excellent photos Jim, really enjoyed looking at the excellent composition on those.

The hawk in the last shot looks similar to a Harris Hawk, but I don't think it is. Some of the more experienced birders will have to identify that one.

Excellent photos, Jim. The eagle was backlit bit you still nailed the exposure.

This is a rescue aviary?

Great way to pass the time. Well worth it as well with those shots.
I love that pair of Golden Eagles.
