Veterans Park
 
One of the many parks in the Tampa area is the small Veterans Park. I thought some of you guys may enjoy s few shots. May bring a few memories for some of you. E-3, 12-60mm

Hey Steve

Always loved the Bell Heuy..I think its from all those Vietnam war movies and the cobra, thats always been one mean looking chopper!

Nice pictures Steven, I can recognize the cobra chopper but the other one is a Gacela??

Hi Marcelo: The two choppers are the Bell AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter (the mean looking one with the shark teeth painted on it), and the widely used Bell UH-1 Huey transport. The Huey is a ubiquitous military helicopter, widely used for a lot of duties, and also widely used in other countries. You can always tell when a Huey was approaching by the "whump, whump," sound of the rotor blades.

Interesting photos, Steven - thanks for posting them.

Marcelo, if you ever watched the TV show MASH, the Huey was the chopper used. It was the first military chopper to use a gas turbine engine (the reason for that huge exhaust outlet) instead of a piston engine, and was everywhere in the Vietnam War. My boss piloted them in Nam.
