It seems like just about everytime I check the menu the noise reduction is turned off after I turn it on (Evolt 500). Does it not work in the AUTO mode?

can give some more info? did you power on, set NF ON, power off, and then power ON again to see it reverting back?

did you update your firmware? I think there is one for E500, just check.

I set the Noise Reduction to "ON" then checked the manual settings and it is on. In auto it's off. I got the update a couple days ago.

Atleast, you are not alone. Happened to me too, just tried now.

Set to Auto, set NR to ON.
Set to P, checked NR, it was OFF (for P mode that is)
Switched back to Auto, NR was OFF.

Metalhead -

Several of the "specialized" functions get turned off automatically by the camera's o/s because they are specific to a function - for example, noise reduction is really only useful for long (1 second to bulb) exposure, dark (night/stars) exposures where the CCD noise becomes a factor (little red/green/blue stars start to show up). Noise reduction is a great olympus feature first found in the E20. I think the automatic turnoff feature was put in because if left on some of the more obscure features might interfere with normal usage after a night of long term sky shots. I have noticed this also on my E300 while dialing through different modes.
