the 11-22mm wide angle arrived today, so some short tests were in order.
Its quite a bit sharper than the kit lens which didnt seem too bad at the time, if a tad slow. New with warranty at US612 it would have cost twice that plus a bit here.

first one is upsun, sun situated behind the tree at right, not overly contrasty in a bad shooting situation

Hi, Rriley,

Would this lens be any good for wedding photography at an amateur level?

Thanks

hmm well
point 1. I have never been married
more importantly, I have 0 experience in wedding photography

but I can say this
certainly for group photos, colour rendition seems faithful
and distortions are way light, in that sense it would be excellent

but for close together intimate views
or the all important joy ride around the dance floor I think not
you have to be really in someones face to make that work
and then the ultra-wide view would not be the most flattering

so theres a need to swap lenses to something aproaching 28-90 (35mm)
or run 2 bodies which seems more logical

just as a for instance, i was around 3ft away from the truck in frame1

Beautiful shots. Yes, and as sharp as that lens is, the 50-200 f2.8-3.5 Zuiko is just as sharp. To me, the 11-22 and 50-200 would be a great two-lens combination. Used in tandem, you don't miss the in-between missing focal lengths.I know because I've used my 50-200 in tandem with the 7-14 and the super-wide, tele zoom combination creates great images with someunique perspectives.

Hi Riley

Some seriously fab shots with the new lens! they look just spot on in B&W and the 11-22 is definetly on my list for possible next purchase.

Cheers

thanks guys
its really a bundle of fun
quite low distortion, particularly if you arnt so close
its able to resolve texture at a level Im just not used too
I mean, just how interesting can a wall be ?

this is the actual distortion from a brick wall test
i was oh, about 6 or 7ft from the wall with 11mm
its a lot less at the 22mm end, so this is the worst
PP does an amasing job if you are careful
Im using UM in 2 stages
dupe the layer and turn to soft light

this file is just reduced, no PP
