Today I got to play with the E400 - boy its a small camera. It looked small compared to the D40 on the shelf but its even smaller when you hold it. First impression was that it felt well made - not as nice as the E1 but better than the E330 I had a play with b4 going for the E1. Good button layout and the LCD was very nice - much better menu layout as well. The new 14-42 is very small - suits the cam, so thats well done from Oly. VF wasn;t too bad but you do notice a difference compared to the E1. I didnt have a CF card with me to test it out with some sample shots. My only negative is the actual ergonomics - becuase of its small size and it missing a bigger right grip I just found it uncomfortable esp after you've held the E1.

Next time I'll take a CF card with me and see what it can do.

Cheers

Another new dcam to think about, a lighter cam if it comes up with

the results, as good as, if not better than the competition.

I will look forward to hearing if you get something on a CF card and

have formed an opinion. Thanks for posting.

Hi Riley

I'll see what I can do with some test shots in the next few days as I'm planning another visit to the store with the E1 as well so we can do a side by side comparison. I don;t think the E400 is for me just a wee bit too small and the lack of the grip was just uncomfortable. It feels pleasantly well put together, a wee bit like the E1. Its very lightweight as well about the same as my FZ10 which would be a real plus point if it had IS. I actually found the Pana L1 to be quiet nice in the hand when I first had a play with it. I do like the size of the new lenses, which really show the advantage of 4/3 but I wish they were a wee bit faster (althought from all reviews theyre even better than the previous 14-45/40-150). I'd love to see say a new 50-200mm of 35-100f2.8 in the new size.

I'm very happy with the E1 and if I do get another cam I'll probably look at the E3, the E33x or the L1 replacment say sometime next year.

Cheers
