Hello all... new user here.

I am looking to purchase a couple extra battery packs for myE-500 and was looking on Amazon, eBay and a couple other e-tailers but I'm a little confused at which I should look to purchase.

Is there a huge difference between the OEM battery packs and the generic equivalent available? I noticed theOEM runs$35+ on Amazon but the generic brandscan be had for $15+. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Well, you can learn about BLM-1 clone batteries in general here:

Personally I own four Olympus brand BLM-1's, so you can guess my opinion on the use of clones (I didn't feel like risking my camera with clones).

I've bought a couple of clones (from Dyon, Kenko Co., Ltd), but I bought them from a reputable retailer here in Tokyo (Yodobashi), not from ebay. Just be sure you have recourse in case they don't pan out.

In looking at your link, it appears several of the better clones are not even available for purchase anymore. Not sure how accurate that site is anymore. Probably was a great resource in early 2006.

Went to CompUSA (Indianapolis, Castleton Square Mall)today and the had the battery packs for $5.99. Unfortunately, they were completely sold out. Additionally, this is an item they will not be restocking, so when they're gone, they're gone.

Too bad.
