Hi all,

I am unable to take pictures with my E300 as everytime I click to take a picture, I hear the mechanics of the camera preparing to take the shotbut then I receive the error message "D : 5C81" on the LCD display, with the camera then locking up. Does anyone know what the problem is or may be, or offer any solutions/advice? Any help would be much appreciated!!

Thanks

Jon

I would first take the lens off and check if anything is blocking the mirror. Try taking a photo without the lens and see if the mirror is moving as it should.

If you have another memory card, try using that.

If still the same problem: Try pressing the MENU button,
press DOWN ARROW three times to get to the bottom sub-menu,
press RIGHT ARROW, DOWN ARROW and reset the camera.

If this doesn't work, take the battery out for, say, four-five days (I think it only remembers the settings for 2 days, but better be sure).

Good luck! Please let us know if how the above went.

I would also ask Olympus technical support in your area, eg. for Europe di.support@olympus-europa.com.

Unfortunately there is NOTHING online about that error number (other than your own post).

Before contacting Olympus try another memory card, and resetting the camera (the reset function is in Setup Menu 2 (the one with the wrench).

My guess it could be a bent CF pin (if you're careless with slapping in CF cards it IS possible to bend a pin), or the shutter is at the end of its life (it's only rated ~30,000 activations).

I'm also interested since I'm an E-300 user.

My own response hasn't changed...doing a Google search still doesn't come up with anything, except this thread.
