Before I take a picture with the flash it has this annoying pulse flash, does anyone know how to turn this off, but still leave the flash on ?

Assuming you don't have the red-eye mode selected, it's the focus assist illuminator...it flashes when there's not enough light for the lens to lock onto focus.

To turn it off go into Setup Menu 1 (the one with a wrench 1) and turn AF ILLUMINATOR to OFF.

Note if you use an external flash (FL-36 or FL-50) there is a red beam used instead rather than strobing.
