I am looing for a third party flash unit fro my E510. I have seen a Tumax DA880Z on ebay. Does anyone have experience with this unit or any others that are relatively inexpensive?

If your looking at the FL36 then definitely consider the Metz 48 AF-1 for Olympus

Here's the Metz product info page:

http://www.metzflash.co.uk/pages/metz48af1.html

Some user reports:

i think the 48 is pretty close in terms of price to the Fl36 but has a better feature list.

Cheers

It does? Other than having a little more power and faster recharge (due to it operating with four AAs instead of two which means more weight), it doesn't have any more "Olympus TTL" features than the OEM Olympus flashes. As well I've read people complaining about compatibility issues using the Metz remotely (FL-36R/50R mode).

Some people say that the Metz flash can be updated via USB is a feature the Oly flashes doesn't have, but the Olympus FL-36/50 flashes could be updated via the camera since day one, except Olympus has never needed to release a firmware update for the flash.

I don't have the Tumax DA880Z, so I can't comment on that unit. ButI just picked up a used Olympus fl-36 flash unit last week from B&H Photo.I paid 135.00US for it, which I thought was pretty reasonable. The unit worksseamlessly withmy E-510 and I think, it's a perfect match for it.

you can pick up a used fl-36 on EBay, Adorama, or B&H Photo fairly easily.

You may also read more about the Oly Fl-36 flash on www.wrotniak.net

Look in the photo tidbits section.

Good luck on your hunt.
