I just took this. Frog statues are about the only creatures that will be out in this rain. And I can't stand out in the rain, it keeps putting out my cigar!!

Default My reply as to when to start

Hi All,

I have to take my wife to the hospital Friday morning as she is having surgery to repair a torn miniscus in her knee. I expect her to require a fair amount of help over the weekend. For this reason, I would ask that the competition start on Monday.

Having said that, if it isn't agreeable with everyone else, I will go along with whatever you guys decide.

monday sounds good, unless anyone objects. so we have 14 days between sunrise monday, 5/25 and sunset sunday 6/7 to come up with a photo. i'll come up with a new thread before monday to kick it off, to state rules & guidelines, etc..
there's some stiff competition here, so be warned!

official contestents are:
satire23
HarjTT
gwillys
zig-123
steven r
pgmcoder

any suggestions for image size so they can all be the same? based on 4/3

how about:
864 x 648 pixels sound ok?
12 x 9" @ 72 pixels/inch
or
30.48 x 22.86 cm @ 28.346 pixels/cm
portrait or landscape. someone check my numbers. other idea's?

zig - hope you wife's surgery goes ok

Hey zig: good luck to the wife for her upcoming surgery.

I'm leaving to go out of town this weekend, won't be back until Monday night. Your start date sounds good to me. Work is the curse of the leisure class, just hope I get home every evening after work in time to have a little daylight left. And hope that the big birds that frequent my back yard will be out there next week. Sometimes my back yard is like Jurrasic park, and other times I don't see anything for days.

I'm planning to use an E330 with the Oly 40-150 f4-5.6 and a Tokina 80-200 f4.5. (I understand that I don't have the firepower of the other guys, so hopefully I'll make it up with the huge birds, which means I don't have to get as close as you guys shooting the little birdies.)

Anybody got any extra fish that I could use as bait?? LOL!!!

Default Thanks

Hi GW/Steven,

Thanks for your best wishes. My wife is doing well. Now, it's just the process of staying close to the house and getting her what she needs for the next few days.

Steven, I'll be curious to see what you get using the the Tokina 80-200mm.

I'm actually getting excited about this competition as I'm sure there will be a surprise or two. Should be a great learning experience.

Now it's just a matter for the weather to cooperate.

rules & guidelines
competitors using an oly camera, one entry per contestant.

a 14 day period to finalize your entry. in other words, your can change your entry up till the end of contest, but only 1 entry per contestant. use the edit button here if available, or this can be done by replacing the file on the host's site, so that the thread here only shows one image per contestant.

Each entry must have been taken the date of the start of the contest or later. In other words, don't pull out something you took a year ago. please make exif available.

Must be live, wild birds. no captives, tame, or taxidermist variety.

judging will commence after contest is closed. so we have 14 days between sunrise monday, 5/25 and sunset sunday 6/7 to git r' done.
===============================================
in a effort to level the playing field:
try to minimize cropping.

size: image should be close to: 864 x 648 pixels/12 x 9" @ 72 pixels/inch/30.48 x 22.86 cm @ 28.346 pixels/cm.
portrait or landscape.

the image should be focused on one main subject, ie: no groups, flocks or awe inspiring post card views.

the frame must be large enough to contain the entire body of the subject, even though part of the subject may be obscured.
================================================

gentlemen....start your chargers.

================================================
ps: lemme know if i screwed something up here

I think everything sounds good to me.
My camera is ready, I'm ready, and I think the birds just might be ready.
Of course, if it's anything like deer hunting, the birds will disappear on the 1st day of the competition

just a test image, I think this is about the size you were looking for.

The only flying creatures I've seen in my yard since it stopped raining.
