NO. I mean use the diamond AF pattern, NOT all AF points.

Hrm... is this for the E-620 as well? I went through the AF menu and I couldn't find anything about S-T-D or diamond.

Sorry - I don't have a 620. I just know that it's way the best AF on my E-3.

I've had 4 Oly DSLRs and all of them have had a manual that's semi-worthless. I couldn't find it in my E-3 manual either but I found it on the camera's menu. Try this: Open the Menu on the camera, go to the Camera2 menu, go to the "AF Area" menu, and you should see a choice of 3 AF areas. Choose the area that looks like a cross (+). That's what folks call the diamond pattern.

Ted

Edit: I did find it in my E-3 manual. In the Table of Contents, go to the Menu section and you'll see it there. But you'd never find that unless you already knew it was there, and there's no explanation of it there. It's obscurely shown if you look for "Dynamic Single Target AF Mode" in the manual but at least in my E-3 manual you wouldn't get much information there.

BTW, if you haven't downloaded the PDF of your manual you probably should. That way you can search in it and there's some chance you might find what you're looking for...

I seem to only find two: single AF and all AF (all AF illuminated)... probably due to my E-620.

I've regularly go through the PDF and paperback manual. They provide for an interesting read

I just couldn't believe Oly eliminated that option so I looked at the E-620 manual. Indeed, the 620 has fewer focus points than the E-3 (and, I assume, the E-30) so that diamond pattern isn't available. That's crazy for their mid-priced camera. It would make sense for their E-4XX cams but makes no sense for the 620 - how much manufacturing cost could that have saved?

Ted

Edit: Oly accomplished something with the E-620 manual that I didn't think was possible. It's worse than the E-3 manual - not even a chapter that walks through all the Menu options. If my company gave a customer a manual like that for the software we develop, we'd never get another job from them. Good thing Oly DSLRs take good images...

Glad to know I'm not going crazy.
