Default [pics] Little Corellas

February 1st, 2010
Mooroolbark, Victoria, Australia
Olympus E620
Zuiko 70-300mm lens

A flock of noisy Little Corellas invaded a nearby street one summer's evening where they were feeding & playing with one another. Several of the birds were swinging from the power lines. Moments after the first pictured Corella landed (bottom), another one tried to land right on it! The upside-down Corella responded by biting the others foot!

I was focusing on a couple of Corellas in a nearby tree when this occurred, hence the focal length which resulted in missing the birds wings. However I quite liked the interaction between the pair.

This particular bird was perched on the power lines feeding on what I think was a large seed pod of some sort.

Little Corellas playing on the power lines. The out-stretched wings & soft feather colours make this bird seem almost angelic.. until, that is, you hear their squawk!

This Little Corella was feeding in a tree in one of my neighbours front yard.

Hi Adam,

Great images of a bird I've never seen before. All exhibit good feather detail

The 3rd is my favorite.

I hope you don't in the future, Zig. They're native to Australia and if you see one here it means someone probably brought it in illegally and then it was released by someone tired of taking care of it.

Really nice captures which make the birds seem very lively and playful.
